Are you ready to leave behind winter’s chill and embrace “pura vida” – The Simple Pure LIfe? Leave the details to us and get ready to be impressed and restored.

Your Guide: Alexa was born in Switzerland, raised in Miami, and has been living in the cloud forests of Monteverde, Costa Rica, for the past decade. She  discovered the magic of the tropics as a student on a 3-week Ecology field course in 2008, and has been sharing her passion for the natural world through her work (and play) ever since! Alexa is a professional Naturalist guide and Field Instructor/Course designer for tropical ecology field courses and is skilled at communicating natural history in a way that is both academically accurate and entertaining. When she is not working, she’s always bird watching. You can also find her dancing salsa, merengue, cumbia, or bachata any time she gets the chance.

Your GG2P Facilitator: Regina is from the Pacific Northwest. She lived in Spain for 10 years and speaks fluent Spanish. She spent 6 months living in Monteverde, Costa Rica, as well as San Jose. She loves the people in Costa Rica and is inspired by the rich flora and fauna. She can’t wait to show you this special place.

Itinerary

Day 1 – March 10th – Thursday

You’ll meet the rest of your GG2P crew at the Liberia airport. Our private driver will pick us up at the airport and take us to Buena Vista del Rincon, our home for the first night.

Take a dip in the freshwater pool and explore the verdant grounds.

Meet for a cocktail toast and then enjoy our group welcome dinner at the hotel and get to know your new Costa Rica travel buddies.

Meals included: Welcome dinner

Day 1 Hotel: Buena Vista del Rincon

Day 2 – March 11 – Friday

Enjoy breakfast at our hotel and then pack up because we’re off to a new base camp for our next adventure.

Our private driver will take us into the lush forests of Monteverde (Spanish for green mountain), an appropriate moniker for this emerald-hued destination. Along the way, we’ll stop at a women-led community center for lunch and a chance to learn more about Costa Rican culture.

Once at our hotel in Monteverde, you’ll have time to freshen up, explore the grounds, and just chill. Get a hot stone massage at the onsite spa or a clay body wrap (additional charge).

In the evening, enjoy dinner with the group at the onsite restaurant. Optional night hike tonight to spot nocturnal critters.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner

Day 2 Hotel: El Establo Mountain Hotel

Day 3 – March 12th – Saturday

Awake early for breakfast at the hotel before lacing up and heading out to see some jungle residents. The best time to spot the abundant wildlife calling Monteverde home is in the wee hours or the morning. We’ll hike at the spectacular Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and follow Alexa as she points out hard-to-spot animals (you may want to bring a pair of binoculars on this trip).

The reserve is the crown jewel of Monteverde and we’re certain to see animals. Possible sightings may include agoutis, monkeys, coatis, and many birds! Keep your eyes peeled for motmots and the striking resplendent quetzal.

We’ll work up an appetite while trekking in the reserve. Enjoy a group lunch at Tramonti, an Italian restaurant with great views across the forest.

In the afternoon, we’ll tour a local coffee farm and stock up on gifts and your own personal cafe stash. Costa Rican coffee is some of the best in the world and makes for a delicious souvenir.

The evening is yours. Enjoy the hotel. Rest. Opt for a spa treatment. Listen to the music of the jungle. Dinner is on your own tonight.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 3: Hotel: El Establo Mountain Hotel

Day 4 – March 13th – Sunday

Do you hear the gentle lap of the Pacific Ocean? We’re headed to the beach today for the final leg of our journey. No trip to Costa Rica is complete without time spent strolling the soft sand along palm-fringed playas.

Our private driver will take us from Monteverde to Carrillo, a small beach town with a perfect cove of sandy heaven. Paradise found!

Settle into the hotel and enjoy the pool. Go for a walk on the beach and take your first swim in the warm Pacific. Watch the pelicans dive for fish. Read a book or enjoy a cocktail (or both!).

In the late afternoon, it’s all aboard for a sunset snorkeling tour on a catamaran.

Gather in the evening for dinner with the GG2P group at the hotel.

Meals included : Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4 Hotel: Nammbu Beachfront Bungalos

Day 5 – March 14th – Monday

This morning you have a choice: Punta Islita or a kayak adventure.

After breakfast, you’ll have the option to hop on a boat to the island of Punta Islita to visit the Macaw Recovery Network. Punta Islita is home to the organization’s Macaw Refuge and Breeding Center, where rescued and injured birds are kept for breeding purposes. Their young are then released into the wild. The Scarlet Macaw is one of the most flashy local birds in Costa Rica, with cherry red feathers and royal blue patches. Over 50 Scarlet Macaws have been released to date, creating the now famous Wild Scarlet Macaw Reserve. Previously extinct in this area of Guanacaste, the Scarlet Macaw is now back!

The other possibility is a guided kayak tour to the mangroves in the Samara Beach area.. Paddle along the Ora River through mangrove tunnels, heading toward Camaronal Beach. Be on the lookout for native birds along the way.

These are two fun ways to get to know the Costa Rican coast a bit better; which will you choose?

After your morning outing with the birds or the mangroves, enjoy lunch on your own in town or at the hotel on your own and maybe a post-tour siesta.

The afternoon is yours. Pop into town for shopping or indulge in some YOU time by the pool.

Join your GG2P friends in the evening for dinner at La Dolce Vita right on the beach in Samara. Swap your macaw stories over fruity drinks and great views.

Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 5 Hotel: Nammbu Beachfront Bungalos

Day 6 – March 15th – Tuesday

Today, you are Jane of the Jungle. We’ll thread through the canopy like the monkeys do on a forest zip-line tour. It’s okay to scream as you glide among the treetops! You will not be the first or the last! (NOTE: Options available for those not up for a zip-line.)

Enjoy lunch with your toes in the sand in Samara at Gusto Beach before we go east to Liberia.

Our private driver takes us from lunch to Liberia. Check into your hotel room and freshen up. Maybe take a dip in the pool.

In the evening, join the whole crew for a farewell cocktail. Let’s toast to a great trip! Then, enjoy a farewell dinner with the whole group.

This is your last night in Costa Rica. What was your favorite part of the journey? Share stories and good food one more time before heading home tomorrow.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 Hotel: Hilton Garden Inn Liberia Airport

Day 7 – March 16th – Wednesday

It’s time to say “adios” to your GG2P friends. After breakfast at the hotel, our driver will take the group to the airport in Liberia. Head home with the “pura vida” mantra in your heart!

Meals included: Breakfast

If you have questions, press the Inquire Now button above, and complete the form. We’ll get back to you ASAP.

If you’d like to come, press the Reserve Now button above. You will be prompted to complete a form with your pertinent details, put down a refundable $250 deposit, and schedule a time to speak with a GG2P representative. We like to speak with everyone before they embark on their first trip with Girls’ Guide to Paris & Beyond. This allows you to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have.
