Girl Talk with Mireille Guiliano

Mireille Guiliano’s life has been devoted to representing both French women and French luxury. Marriage to a US CEO (of the New York Institute of Technology) brought her from Paris to New York. There she helped found Clicquot, Inc., the US importer of Veuve Clicquot champagne; she also became a senior executive at luxury conglomerate LVMH. Her work life has always combined high pressure and continuous travel.

Le Petit Weekend: Burgundy at a Glance

As much as all Parisians love Paris, they also adore a petit weekend—a getaway, either a day trip from Paris or an entire weekend. Recently, during autumn, I hightailed it out of the city for a wine-tasting trip to Burgundy. My friend Kelly and I headed for Beaune, which is perfectly situated to explore both côtes, Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. One can reach Beaune via train or car. The TGV train takes just over two hours to arrive there, and via car the trip is about three hours plus, depending on traffic. If you wish to take the train, you can rent bikes right in Beaune if the weather is fine. But there are some hills, so if you want to tour the entire region, you’ll need to either rent a car in Beaune or be in good biking shape.

New in Paris: April Edition

Taking its cue from the Opéra district, where it’s located, the Hôtel Athénée Paris is showing off its new decor with an operatic touch, courtesy of Jacques Garcia, who took his inspiration from the romanticism of 19th-century Italy. One of the best features of the Paris hotel is its luxuriously cozy Red Bar, which is decorated in deep purple and crimson tones, with plush and luxurious velvet couches and walls lined with original photos signed by the greatest opera stars. The bar offers the comfort of a private lounge and serves predinner drinks and cocktails. Each of the 20 guest rooms has its own unique score inspired by 4 timeless operas. Each room is graced with walls decorated by the Maison Pierre Frey, bespoke furniture, velvet and taffeta furnishings, a safe, a minibar, air-conditioning and an LED satellite TV. Gorgeous Bisazza mosaic glass tiles line the bathrooms. The hotel also features free Wi-Fi, luxury concierge service and a smoking lounge. Rates for doubles begin at 230 euros.

New in Paris: March Edition

The Radisson Blu Ambassador Hotel, located in the Opéra district, just went through a renovation. Located near the Opéra Garnier, the 297 rooms and suites of the Paris hotel are housed in a Haussmann building dating back to 1927. The redecorated rooms now reflect a relaxing yet contemporary decor thanks to English designer Paul Bevis, who used marble, wood, leather and luxurious fabrics in shades of purple and beige. Rooms on the top floors are afforded fabulous views of Paris rooftops, the Opéra Garnier and the Eiffel Tower. The addition of an executive lounge on the eighth and top floor is devoted entirely to welcoming V.I.P. clients. Amenities include free high-speed wireless Internet access throughout the property, Nespresso machines in business rooms and suites, a breakfast buffet, a fitness center and the hotel’s signature

Luxury Hotels in Paris: Inside the Plaza Athénée

Where better to spend the afternoon than at the fabulous Hôtel Plaza Athénée, where I was lucky enough to be given a tour of the public areas as well as the wine cellar, kitchens and chic accommodations thanks to Travel Onion. Let’s put it this way: this Paris hotel is not too shabby! Julie Hong from Sales and Aude Bourgouin from Press Relations hosted our little tour party and introduced us to the directrice of the hotel, Laurence Bloch, who was just so nice and approachable.
