Here is the itinerary for our April 2018 Ladies Only Provence Tour:
Wednesday, April 25
Arrive, refresh, unpack and relax.
Drinks at 7pm and then dine at a magnificent local restaurant outside on their terrace in L’Isle Sur la Sorgue.
Optional jet-lag massage in the afternoon.
Thursday, April 26
Spend your first full day shopping for antiques at Isle sur la Sorgue and touring this darling town surrounded by a river and watermills.
Lunch in town at Jouvaud, a darling tea salon, patisserie and charming shop.
Optional afternoon travel to Fontaine de Vaucluse, the source of the Sorgue river to take a short nature hike and to see an old paper mill.
Dinner at Carre des Herbes in Ile sur la Sorgue.
Friday, April 27
Truffle hunt with the experts & their dogs. After tasting our truffles with champagne by the pool at the proprietors home, we’ll head to the beautiful village of Lourmarin and enjoy a light lunch and after we’ll have time to walk around, sight see and shop. This is one of Peter Mayle’s favorite villages in Provence. (author of a Year in Provence as well as many books about Provence) In the late afternoon we’ll get to experience a lesson in Petanque (the Provençal version of Boule, which is a game played outside with metal balls) with a light apero before heading back to our villa.
Dinner created by one of the top chefs in the area at our gorgeous villa, poolside if weather allows.
Saturday April 28
Early morning at the market in Uzes with chef Eric and then head to his cooking school for an enjoyable cooking class using our Truffles. After our labors we’ll dine with wine on our fixins’.
After class, we’ll stroll around the village Uzès and see the Medieval garden.
Optional stop at a small town nearby that specializes in Pottery from the region.
Dinner on your own @ hotel or in town.
Sunday April 29
Wake up a bit later today and head to the impossibly beautiful town of Gordes. Tour this charming village, named one of the most beautiful in France and visit the old village of Bories, where you can see the old way sheep hearders used to live in the region.
1pm lunch at Ferme de la Huppe near Gordes
In the afternoon Visit Rousillon the famous red village and walk the Ocre trail. Then we’ll stop into to see the Cistercian monks at the local Abbaye and taste some of the products the monks make locally including everything from cheese to liquers and more.
We arrive back to hotel early enough so you can lounge, exercise, read or just relax. Simple meal in town at a French tapas bar.
Monday April 30
Today we’ll venture to St. Remy and visit Van Gogh’s monastery where he lived and painted and we’ll also see some Roman Ruins. Then we’ll head to Menerbes, the town made famous by the book a Year in Provence for lunch.
After lunch we’ll enjoy a rosé wine tasting at one of the local Domaine’s.
After some rest back at our villa and an invigorating swim we’ll head out to celebrate our last night meal together at a Chateau in Chateneuf du Pape – the famed wine village, world renowned as the earliest supplier of wine to the Pope who used to live locally in Avignon.
Tuesday May 1
Breakfast, photo sharing & depart. This is May-Day in France, a day where mugets (lily of the valley) are shared with one another. Take several home as your keepsake of a sweet Provençal memory.
