Paris, Bordeaux and St. Emilion
for Mary Louise and Friends 4/23-30, 2020
Thursday. April 23rd, 2020
Arrive to Paris, settle in at the Hotel Jobo. Meet at my apartment on the Ile St. Louis for cocktails and then head out for a homey and quaint French bistro for dinner.
Day 1 Friday April 24
Am Interior Design tour at the Musee des Arts et Decoratif.
Lunch at the best crêperie in Paris.
Afternoon tour with Kasia including a perfumery and a discount drugstore where you can stock up on all of your French lotions and potions. Visit a royal candle shop that’s been in business for 100’s of years.
Dinner at a charming wine bar
Day 2 Saturday April 25th
12 noon Head out to the flea markets for a tour and some shopping after a sumptuous brunch. Explore some of the off the beaten tracks areas behind and on the side streets where you can get the very best deals. Shipping back to the US is possible.
Listen to Gypsy Jazz at Django Reinhart’s own café. Back to hotel by 4:30pm
Explore the Canal St. Martin in the evening and eat dinner nearby along the canal.
Day 3 Sunday April 26th
Depart for Bordeaux via train
Arrive and Check into our hotel for the next two nights.
This afternoon we’ll take a walking tour of this exquisite city and learn a little bit about its history. We’ll check out the ancient cathedral where Eleanor of Aquitaine was married.
Dinner at one of my favorite spots in Bordeaux serving hyper-local cuisine.
Day 4 Monday April 27th
We’ll have some time this morning for shopping, something that is quite enjoyable in Bordeaux!
PU Van and Drive up in the afternoon to the Medoc and enjoy a unique wine tasting at Chateau Lynch Bages followed by an exquisite Michel Star meal….
We’ll get to see their private wine cellar and meet the award winning chef and tour his kitchen. If time we’ll take a detour to see the beach and dip our toes in the sand on the other side of the Atlantic.
Day 5 Tuesday April 28th
Check out and head to St. Emilion (less than a 1 hr drive) and check into: Logis de la Cadene in the middle of the walled medieval village. We’ll lunch at a lovely local place in this medieval walled town and then take a tour of the underground church which is one of two in all of France, its a sight to behold. Don’t worry there will be plenty of time for souvenir shopping in this charming town.
Tonight we’ll watch the sunset over the vines and enjoy a meal at Terrasse Rouge where we can try the local caviar.
Day 6 Wed April 29th
For those who want to rise early, we will go with our own chef to the market this morning to buy dinner for tonight.
Today we will rent bikes or Segways at Chateau Soutard and we’ll tour the surrounding area on wheels!
Then I’ll take you to my favorite truck stop for lunch. This is a place to people watch – here you’ll see French characters that look like they stepped out of a Peter Mayle book. The food is excellent!
Then we can head to a Roman ruin or go to a Foie Gras tasting (or a cheese farm). In the late afternoon we can relax at my house with a bottle or two of wine as we relax, soak in the sun and watch our French chef Marc make us our own private meal at my home overlooking the Dordogne river. We’ll toast to a fabulous week together discovering some of the most beautiful places in France.
Head back to Bordeaux where you’ll return to Paris via train.
