Day 1 – Sunday June 27th – Arrival Day
Arrive Sunday afternoon via ferry. Just as the weekenders are leaving you’ll be arriving for a glorious girls’ week of fun, hooray!
We’ll pick you up and escort you to your antique-filled newly-opened boutique hotel, the Faraway Inn. The inn keeper’s goal was to transport the salon style of Gertrude Stein’s living room in 1920’s Paris to Nantucket island. You can be the judge. Upon arrival and check-in you’ll have time to unpack, rest and refresh before we meet up for drinks and dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 – Monday June 28th – Cooking & History
Rise and shine and inhale the smell the fresh sea air. After a light breakfast at the inn, we’ll spend the day exploring the flowery fairy tale of Nantucket. Stepping onto the cobblestone streets of Nantucket is to step back into a more peaceful, thoughtful era.
We’ll start our morning with a harbor-side walk through 17th century Nantucket town, chock full of both US and British history. We’ll see ferry boats and perfumed rosa rugosa as we wind our way to iconic Brant Point to snap a photo or three. Debi will share some of her Instagram secrets where she is, of course, an influencer.
Our walk will end on Orange Street, where we’ll begin the Workshop inside the new gorgeous DL Cottage kitchen. Today’s agenda: summer cooking. Together we’ll prepare and enjoy a sumptuous brunch with the season’s top recipes on a custom French La Cornue range, the favorite of Julia Child, Alice Waters and more. Eating our preparations surely won’t be too much of a hardship.
This afternoon we’ll visit storied Sconset, the tiny artist’s hamlet on the eastern tip of the island. Here roses cover the roofs, wildflower pocket gardens rule the day, and the most beautiful secret garden walk awaits. You’ll hear tales of powerful and interesting women who began their fight for equality right here in this small summer oasis.
Then we’ll tour the most handsome summer cottage on Nantucket, inspired by designer Mark Sikes. We’ll end our stroll touring one of the prettiest south-of-France-style settings this side of the Atlantic. After all of our explorations we’ll head back to our hotel to relax, read, nap and regroup.
Depending on the weather tonight part of our group will join your co-host Doni and Captain Robert on their 47’ sailboat, Relish (as in Relish the day!) for a sunset sail.
The rest of us will stay on land to savor the best sunset view on the island, with a charcuterie and champagne beach party. The sailors will join when they can.
Watch the ferries sail in and out as we toast our good fortune as the golden summer sun dips below the horizon and the beach goers cheer with delight.
Day 3 – Tuesday June 29th – Seaside & Flowers
This morning we’ll start our day with a coastal hike, the air pregnant with the smell of salt. Through the natural oasis of the salt marsh we’ll wander along the pristine harbor as well as Coatue, the slender barrier peninsula and wildlife refuge that protects Nantucket Harbor. We’ll see a dozen species of protected shorebirds, waterbirds, plovers, herons, oyster-catchers and egrets.
Next, we’ll enjoy a hands on floral workshop inside DL Cottage, as we create romantic hand tied French bouquets with farm fresh flowers using garden roses, ranunculus, anemone and more. Debi has won numerous awards for her displays at the Philadelphia flower show, so you’ll be in good hands.
This however won’t be an ordinary floral workshop. According to legend, practitioners and believers, floral aura colors are caused by vibrations. Every atom and molecule in the universe translates itself into patterns, and every person in the world has an aura that surrounds them. The patterns emanate from the body as vibrations, and correspond to your fundamental characteristics, personality traits, and all that makes you…you! Using our floral aura practice we will read yours today. Throughout history, since Roman times, people use flowers to correspond with these attributes, primarily because of their colors. Beyond a just building a bouquet, after this session with Debi you’ll discover something illuminating about yourself.
Lunch will be another gorgeous and gracious garden party, in a secret walled garden covered in ivies and shade trees in town.
We’ll finish today by 4pm, so you can enjoy the afternoon and evening on your own, free to explore the charming shops and restaurants that surround you. Debi will point out her favorite. We can easily arrange activities and reservations for you depending on your desired wishes.
Those who didn’t get to sail previously will head out for a sunset sail tonight on Relish, cocktails in hand!
Day 4 – Wednesday June 30th – Farms & Feasts
Mornings are better on the farm, so we’ll start at a world famous 7th generation family farm founded in the 1800’s. Get ready to sample everything my friends – because this taste of the farm will be legendary. After touring the fields we will enjoy a farm to table workshop in every sense of the world. Together we’ll create a Summertime Tomato and Strawberry Feast, complete with savory tomato cocktails, fresh baked french tarts, salads, grilled pizzas and desserts. We’ll enjoy our handiwork alfresco in the garden.
This afternoon we’ll head back to our hotel to relax and regroup having dinner on our own. Spa appointments can be made before-hand if you wish to really be pampered. And after this past year … let’s face it, we need it!
At 8pm we’ll meet up again for a wine & chocolate party around the fire-pit at the DL Cottage. We’ll learn to best pair wines with rich chocolate, while creating s’mores and toasting in the moonlit garden.
Day 5 – Thursday July 1st – Departure
After a relaxing breakfast and sharing of our best photos, it’s off back into the great blue sea to return to our lives and to get ready for the upcoming July 4th weekend. You’ll be ready to create your summer barbecue and brunches in style and panache armed with the tips and ideas you’ve gleaned from one of the very best. But most importantly, as it is with all Girls’ Guide trips, you’ll return with a whole new group of friends, and memories for a lifetime.
