Boutique Paris Hotels, Part I

Posted in what's hot

From hostels to four-star palatial accommodations, Paris hotels offer a wide variety of comfort and affordability. But boutique hotels, with cozy digs and personalized service, are the best way to enjoy Paris these days, and from new to newly renovated, many are showing signs of optimism with fresh pops of color—perfect for getting into the spring spirit. Here are a few of our favorite places to stay in the City of Light.

Hôtel Arvor Saint-Georges

This fresh space, snuggled into the curving rue Laferrière (in the 9th Arrondissement), manages to be hip and chic without being pretentious or too cool for school. The hotel has a good relationship with the musicians and DJs who often stay there, so it occasionally hosts intimate acoustic concerts and petites soirées for its guests. Filled with thoughtful details like a communal breakfast table and a bookcase with options for afternoon reading, and decorated with colorful, offbeat art and a mix of vintage and modern furniture, l’Hôtel Arvor Saint-Georges feels the way a home away from home should feel: better than home.

Best for relaxed hipsters with great style.
What to do: Check out the nearby Musée de la Vie Romantique, which will transport you to another time and place.
Fave room: The top floor’s chambre de bonne–style suite is intimate, romantic and filled with sunlight.
Price: Affordable to moderate.

Hôtel Verneuil

This friendly spot in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood (in the 7th Arrondissement) is marked by halls lit by stained glass and a cozy lounge where guests can work on their laptops from comfy couches or have a cocktail after a long day of sightseeing. The rooms are brought to life with bursts of color and high white French beams on the ceiling, while rolled, hand-tied books lining the walls behind the beds pay homage to the literary history of the neighborhood. Centrally located and lovingly decorated, l’Hôtel Verneuil is sure to become a favorite shelter for any visitor of Paris.

Best for left bank enthusiasts craving a quiet, comforting space.
What to do: Check out Serge Gainsbourg’s former home across the street, the face of which is covered in the adoring graffiti of generations of teenage fans and is a sight to behold. It’s said that his daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg is the only person with the key to the building.
Fave room: The particular architecture of Room 104, featuring white French beams across an arched ceiling, creates an ambience of charmed intimacy.
Price: Moderate to expensive.

This charming spot in the 16th Arrondissement features massive rooms (so uncommon in many Paris hotels) and friendly, attentive service. The staff truly seem to love working here, bustling around the hotel with warm smiles and boundless energy. From the embroidered “welcome bag” in each room, to the rotating box of Fauchon chocolates waiting on your pillow each night, to Hermès and Clarins toiletries, no detail has been left unchecked at Jays Paris.

Best for families with little ones needing space in which to run around.
What to do: Hop over to the Saint-Didier covered market and load up on fresh food to cook in the kitchenette included in each of the hotel’s rooms.
Fave room: The deco suite opens up to a brightly colored, sunny salon with convertible beds for extra space.
Price: Expensive.
