May 1-7 Basquing in Bordeaux

A frolicking fun tour through the vineyards of Bordeaux including a stay in the Cinderella-like medieval town of St. Emilion. We’ll tour the UNESCO world heritage site of Bordeaux city and stay in one of the top spas and wine chateau’s in France. Then we’ll head to the Basque region on the Atlantic coast at the foot of the Pyrenees and learn about this unique region which is home to tasty rustic foods and wines as well as beautiful sunny beaches.

May 1st arrive in am and check into your hotel in Bordeaux for 2 nights, the lovely and central Hotel Tourny. This afternoon we’ll see the city’s highlights and visit the spectacular modern art museum converted from a warehouse. Tonight we’ll enjoy a hyper-local meal dining on fresh seafood caught in the nearby Atlantic and Arcachon bay.

May 2nd Visit the Medoc Peninsula, drive through the world’s most famous Bordeaux vineyards and after stopping for some wine tours and tastings we’ll splurge on a Michelin star lunch followed by a stroll on the beach.

Head back into town for a light meal and cocktail before attending the beautiful historic Opera house to see a version of Shakepeare’s the Tempest.  

May 3rd  Today we’ll head over to St. Emilion for a stroll through this perfect medieval village where we’ll stop for another wine tasting as well as a homemade lunch in the village. Tonight you’ll stay at a bucolic and peaceful boutique hotel in the center of town and you’ll dine at my house on the river at a meal prepared by our own French chef! 

May 4th Today we’ll have a leisurely day as we check-into the 5-Star Les Sources de Caudalie Hotel and Spa for the night, a Relais and Chateau property. This award winning spa sits on the grounds of Chateau Haut Smith Lafite, producer of one of my favorite white wines in the world. Caudalie spa pioneered the concept of using the skins and pits of grapes to create their world famous beauty line. You’ll feel like a beautiful princess when we check out in the morning after dining at their delectable restaurant on the grounds. Opportunity to do some am biking before check-out. 

May 5th and 6th Towards the end of our exciting trip, we’ll be staying in the picture perfect town of St. Jean de Luz which sits on the Atlantic Ocean and is backed by the Pyrenées mountains. Here we’ll explore the coastline, the culture of the Basque region, its products and its rustic foods and wines. We’ll walk along the beach, enjoy an authentic Basque dinner at a traditional farm in the foothills and visit the AOC town of Espelette where the big red peppers dry against Burgundy shuttered buildings. We’ll taste spicy dark chocolate at an artisan chocolatier plus we’ll have a chance to shop for striped Basque linens and espadrilles in the area that created these products which are famous throughout France. 

May 7th Check out and train back up to Bordeaux for your departure via train or plane to Paris.
