This extraordinary tour begins by focusing on the tiny Alsatian Plus Beaux villages of France situated around Colmar in all of their spring splendor. We’ll visit wineries to sample their award-winning Rieslings, Pinot Gris, Sylvaner and Crémant sparkling wines which this region does so well. If you think of Riesling as sweet wine you’ve not been to Alsace. These are some of the very best white wines in the world. You’ll sample the tarte flambée; the Alsatian pizza which is much loved throughout France, plus we’ll wander up into the Vosges Mountains and visit a cheesemaker. Colmar hotelquatorze.com
Next, we’ll head to the well-preserved small city of Freiburg, Germany. We’ll discover the chic shops with a native and head to Freiberg’s exquisite cathedral from 1200 and their newly redone Augustiner Museum. At the market we’ll sample the local wurst, we’ll hit the Biergarten and we’ll dine on the best pork or veal schnitzel you’ve ever tasted. Options abound for vegetarians. Freiburg colombi.de
After discovering Freiburg we’ll head up the mountain via gondola into the Black Forest where we’ll check into a spa and resort to decompress, drink tea, take walks and get pampered. This place is absolutely idyllic. Black Forest halde.com
During our stay we’ll taste some delicious cherry schnapps and sample the best the German cakes and we’ll make a stop at an asparagus farm to see how white asparagus is grown. The region is famous for it! As we head to Basel outside of the city we’ll stop at the Vitra design museum with a campus of architect designed buildings by the lines of Gehry, Tando Ando etc.

Time for exploring and shopping on one’s own will be built into the schedule at each destination. Basel krafftbasel.ch

NOTE: As a special treat for all of us on this trip, we have a very special guest joining us. Sheri Salata was Oprah’s right hand gal for 20+ years finishing as her Executive Producer during the final season of the show as well as the lady boss who co-launched the OWN Network. Ms. Salata recently wrote the book “A Beautiful NO!” about her life’s adventures on the Oprah show as well as her trials and tribulations in maintaining a work life balance. In short this book is an uplifting adventure into her fascinating world with a focus on what she outlines as the 8 Cornerstones to a Happy Life. It’s at once a biography and a guide to how to get your own LIFE together in what she calls our “middle years” (she just turned 60).
This is a book that every single woman over 40 should read and the good news is, she’s going to be sending it to every lady on this trip as your gift along with a workbook and companion guide. PLUS she’ll be giving us a little Rhine-side chat about her life with Oprah (questions welcome) and later at the spa we’ll discuss our wellness triumphs and challenges. I’m so thrilled she’s going to be joining us.
