French Fashion: Mad as a Hatter

This spring’s hat trend has evolved greatly from the traditional winter beanie. Hats have dominated as the new favorite accessory for the springtime. There has been an introduction of both old and new styles that have taken French fashion by storm, so I decided to share a few of my favorites.

Color, color, color has been the most important accessory for any outfit. Bloggers, stylists and even the avid fashion show attendees took to the streets of Paris to show off their colorful caps. Pastel caps were paired with neutral coats, while also appearing were new, ambiguous caps so unique to each individual. When wearing these fun pieces, find an outfit that is simple yet still complements the style of the hat.

The bucket hat (otherwise known as the fisherman’s hat) has reappeared in a new chic way. This ’80s/’90s style was made popular by rappers such as LL Cool J and Run-DMC, and has now become a fun way to accessorize a collared shirt or floral dress.

Lanvin’s Autumn/Winter ’14 show featured a series of black hats with large brims perfectly paired with its luxury clothing line. The wide-brimmed fedora is an easy style to rock for both men and women and can be worn with almost anything. From a well-tailored blazer to a maxi skirt, this hat can easily transition from day to evening for a chic city-girl look.
