I met two women sporting really great headwear as part of their Paris fashion. But it wasn’t just their hats that caught my eye as I strolled around the romantic city—it was their whole look.
First up is a woman I met in the Tuileries. I always find very well-dressed women in this garden; I try to avoid Fashion Week, as it doesn’t feel like a real representation of street style in Paris, but still the chic and the great keep coming here. This particular girl was visiting from the United States. I loved her ’90s accessories, like the pearlescent jellies and the plastic choker. She told me everything was vintage and that she herself had sewn the jeweled buttons onto her jacket. The hat went with the look beautifully. For some, she might be walking too close to the line of bizarre, but I loved her style. Her bleached hair and minimal makeup kept the look modern.
Next up is a very polished Belgian student whom I stopped in a shower of rain on her way home. Her black felt hat looked so chic with her monochrome outfit, her light brown hair and blue eyes the highlight amid the charcoals and blacks. Hats can also be great at balancing out a wide-shouldered jacket, and this girl balanced out her woolen, shoulder-padded coat very elegantly.
Incorporating a hat into your look is tricky, but turn to these ladies and the countless other stylish women who dot the streets of Paris.
