april in paris

April in Paris -- ah, the splendor of it all. Of course we love Paris year-round, but there is no doubt that spring lifts everyone's hearts a bit after a cold, rainy, gray winter.

introducing ...

This week we bring you a sneak peek of our monthly recipe and wine, which means that you get to see them before anyone else! And this month we are inaugurating a new recipe queen. Camille Malmquist has sadly become too busy to stay with us, working as a pastry chef at the newly opened and gigantically successful resto  Blend. Blend offers vrai American burgers and awesome desserts, like whoopie pies, speculoos cheesecake, cookies and brownies (delicacies from the United States that you can't easily find in Paris), made by our former recipe writer extraordinaire. She will be missed!

katya

Enter stage left, Katia Grimmer-Laversanne from Australia, who is married to a French man and has been living in Paris for more than 10 years. She is half of the very successful weekly Katia and Kyliemac podcast and, not surprisingly, she likes to cook. (Katia is on the right.)

Her first recipe for us is a mouthwatering and oh-so-French appetizer.

recipe of the month

Warm Goat Cheese and Smoked Duck Canapés

With spring in the air, windows have been thrown wide open and partygoers are spilling out on balconies all over Paris, and you need something light and easy for the spontaneous get-together. With only a small amount of preparation involved in this little canapé, it's the perfect French appetizer, which means you'll be able to join your guests on the balcony in no time! Read more.

2010 Château de Sancerre

Parisian society in 1913 got an unexpected taste of pagan ritual during the premiere of Stravinsky's adventurous musical accompaniment to Les Ballets Russes. Historical accounts of The Rite of Spring credited highly original rhythmic structures and
previously unheard tonal dissonance for what appeared to drive the
audience into a form of collective chaos, as the performance allegedly
ended with fistfights in the aisles. The fusing of primitive and modern rendered the piece an instant icon.
