3 Rooms $$$–$$$$
5, rue de Moussy, in the 4th. 01 44 78 92 00.
These are the three übercool apartments designed by Azzedine Alaïa that he rents out near his atelier in the Marais. One is a one-bedroom, and the others are two-bedrooms. For info, write to [email protected].
Hidden Hotel $$$
28, rue de l’Arc de Triomphe, in the 17th. 01 40 55 03 57.
This is one of the first upscale eco-hotels in Paris. The airy rooms have parquet floors, and the beds are made of all-natural fiber. The hotel’s staff can arrange for you to have a massage either in your room or at the neighboring spa. A tranquil space amid the bustle near the Arc de Triomphe.
L’Hôtel $$$–$$$$ (pictured above)
13, rue des Beaux Arts, in the 6th. 01 44 41 99 00.
This is where Oscar Wilde died, and it was once a house of ill repute. It has been a luxury hotel for many years now, but it still has a boudoir vibe. The hammam (Turkish steam room) downstairs is a nice bonus.
Hôtel de Nesle $
7, rue de Nesle, in the 6th. 01 43 54 62 41.
Twenty hand-painted rooms, plus a hammam. You couldn’t pay more than 100 euros here even if you wanted to. You can’t book online. And be prepared—bathrooms are down the hall.
Hôtel du Petit Moulin $$–$$$
29–31, rue du Poitou, in the 3rd, in the Marais. 01 42 74 10 10.
Designed by Christian Lacroix. If you like his over-the-top colors and design, you’ll like this boutique hotel in a fabulous location. He has another hotel now in the 7th that is equally interesting called Le Bellechasse $$-$$$ at 8 rue de Bellechasse 01 45 50 22 31.
Hôtel Esmeralda $
4, rue St.-Julien-le-Pauvre, in the 5th. 01 43 54 19 20.
Rooms begin at only 85 euros. Classic shabby-chic—run-down yet somehow still cool—hotel right next to the oldest church in Paris (St.-Julien-le-Pauvre) and Notre Dame! Made famous by Linnea in Monet’s Garden (where the heroine stayed with her grandfather). For the price, you cannot find a better location.
Les Marronniers $
78, rue d’Assas, in the 6th. 01 43 26 37 71.
An old-fashioned boardinghouse with shared bathrooms. The price is considerably under 100 euros and includes breakfast and dinner—this is an unusual chance to meet your fellow travelers.
