Paris Fashion: Seen on the Streets of Paris

The sun may have been out in bursts, but since Paris has had the wettest spring since 1873, factoring in how to keep the rain at bay has affected Paris fashion in the most wonderful of ways. I saw all sorts of inventive and chic cover-ups on the boulevards and snapped the best of them....

In London, my home capital, there are areas (such as Dalston) where people dress as eccentrically as the Parisians do chic. I haven't seen as much Paris fashion on the streets of the City of Light that looks less than polished, but whenever I do, I snap it up. Here are a few Parisian women wearing something a little different from the boulevard norm.

A vision in pastels and netting, I saw her walking through the...

Preppy is all grown up on the streets of Paris, with amazing eyewear, blazers and shirts beautifully coordinated with color. This style of Paris fashion is quirky yet still thoroughly Parisian, and I looked at a few women channeling it on and off the boulevards. One woman took on navy in all textures with a woolen blazer, silk polka-dot shirt and jeans combined to create a chic-preppy look that screamed cool and put together. The red lipstick was the perfect final, and rather Parisian, touch. In fact, coordination was a key feature....

I am in love with the variety of boots being strutted around the boulevards of Paris. Good boots are a weekend must for strolling around the markets by Ledru Rollin, going to brunch in Belleville or doing a little Paris shopping in le Marais.

With the changeable weather, ankle boots have been proving a hit come rain or shine. Some are beautifully embellished. Of the pairs I spotted, my favorite was cowboy influenced and embroidered with an explosion...

There’s still a chill on the streets of Paris, but we all hope spring will take over the city and Paris fashion at any moment. Until then, women are keeping warm and looking fabulous in woolly hats. From edgy black unembellished numbers to clouds of soft white wool and fur pom-poms, it is worth taking note of beauty and the beanie. From what I have seen, Parisians don’t tend to wear a lot of makeup, but when they do, Paris easily becomes one of the best cities for luxe understated...

There are coats that you can make a style statement with and coats that just keep you warm. Now that the first day of spring has come and gone and the Paris shopping scene looks a little brighter, we Europeans know we still have to keep warm—but at least most of us won't be bundled up in huge parkas. It is the coat that must make every outfit work and work with every outfit. Here's a selection of pieces...

Capes, no longer reserved for superheroes and academics, have been making a comeback. This was the first season that I saw Parisians wearing these little wonders en masse. As a whole, those who walked the boulevards—strolling or dabbling in some idle Paris shopping, perhaps—wore their capes quite conservatively....

As we begin our warm-weather Paris shopping—and ask winter to kindly leave as we beg spring to spring—we have to admire the cold-weather ensembles that the ever-chic Parisians have put together in these frosty months. Here are a few of my favorites.

First, a romantic look in Pigalle that proves winter doesn't have...

Fashion is one of the first things I think of when I’m about to wander around the streets of Paris. "What will I wear today?" is a big question when there are so many artists of dressing and well-appointed Parisians walking around. But right now when I get outside the last thing I want to do is parade up and down the boulevards, and it's not because I'm ashamed of my clothes; it’s because I’m really, really cold....

With its roots firmly planted in French culture (the headwear gets its name from Victorien Sardou's character Fédora) you'd expect to see the fedora everywhere in Paris, and indeed I spotted a great many—but not on men. In our devotion to Paris shopping, we've borrowed every other item of clothing from "men's" wardrobes, so it was inevitable that this hat would have its...
